"Capsule at Lane Crawford is a heartfelt story connecting Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Paris over three years between RUOHAN and Lane Crawford.
RUOHAN’s prominent presence at Lane Crawford Shanghai in late october 2024 marks a significant moment in a long-standing and deeply rooted relationship, rich with shared connections and emotions.
The Spring/Summer 2022 collection, sponsored and curated by Lane Crawford, represented a pivotal milestone for the brand. Like a beginner receiving their most important affirmation, it solidified our commitment to expressing our brand philosophy. A year later, RUOHAN’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection was featured on the official Paris Fashion Week schedule, marking another momentous achievement in our journey, which wouldn't have been possible without previous support."
INSPIRATION
It begins with bamboo weaving, shaping a language of structure rooted in traditional Chinese craftsmanship.
Influences like white porcelain and Xiangyunsha (fragrant cloud gauze) transcend tangible symbols, delving into the essence of creation.
Exploring colors from warm greenish-browns to black and white, materials like silk, cashmere, and leather strips tell a gentle story of transformation and connection, subtly guided by Taoist harmony with nature and Buddhist concepts of karma and 'emptiness.'
Ancient philosophy and traditional crafts, the creative process merges sunlight and earth into intricate designs, reimagining techniques through modern materials and technology.
For example, wax-coated cupro fabric, inspired by Xiangyunsha, replaces plant dyeing with melted wax, creating a texture that evokes both the crispness of Xiangyunsha and the hazy quality of Western oil paintings.
This fusion of old and new crafts something timeless yet contemporary.
DESIGN CONCEPT
The capsule bridges a significant moment in the evolution of RUOHAN, marking the conclusion of the 'Points-Lines-Forms' trilogy.
This capsule is the result of precise study and design exploration.
Drawing from a careful observation of traditional basketry, the design incorporates woven elements derived from wood and hay.
The colors and textures are inspired by coastal reefs, shells, and oysters. The trees nearby further inspire a palette of earthy browns.
